Longing for a Laugh

April 28, 2019

Seldom do my sides split from laughter.

Giggles are gagged by dull questioning.

Frowns seem prominent forever after,

to laugh out loud, is no longer a thing!

Creative thought consumed by anxiety,

All joking aside restrained by boundaries.

Spontaneous applause now so untimely,

as sitcoms muse over one-liners or lies.

Politically correct holds laughter in prison.

Why has life sadly lost its sense of humour?

Workplace jokes now so guarded or hidden,

as our smiles turned away to bid us adieu.

Please stop this madness that seems so rife,

we must fight back, for our smiles to reclaim.

Always look on the bright side of your life,

so giggles & laughter can return and remain.
