First light finally!
Restless chilly night;
dreams soon forgotten.
Rolling, crashing waves,
Relentless, mesmerising noise;
creeping ever closer, ever louder.
A sand fly stings my calf muscle,
slapped, as sand falls from my hair;
parched throat, aches from salty air.
Dark converging clouds,
appear like Stealth Bombers,
fast approaching over the gulf.
Startled rabbit, ears pricked up,
sprints to the shelter of its burrow;
suspiciously, a black cat prowls the hill.
A Joey bounds nearby and unaware,
before the momentary transformation;
from hunter to sphinx-like black sculpture.
Old Western-reds watchfully grazing,
poised on a steep commanding hillside.
Abandoned seashells shimmer in sun’s rays.
Seagulls feed in shallow rock pools,
some are statuesque on the ragged rocks;
beaks tilting back for morning breakfast.
Distant rumble; could it be far out to sea?
Seems neither a bird, nor an animal wild;
just an internal clue, of needing food in me.
