Our girl turned over a leaf

March 15, 2019

A Daimler drives off as a Mum wipes away tears,

a flash illuminates classic 40-year chrome.

To the formal they flee, as I count back the years,

in the distance, Parents proudly stand-alone.

A sigh of relief, as thoughts turn back the time,

to remember the stress and the grief;

when the search was full on, to become refined,

on the day, our girl turned over a leaf.

A dress must be found with divine intervention,

of course, the size really matters a lot!

One size smaller preferred, is her only intention,

frustration is finding the perfect shop!

Velvet so black and so shiny and slick,

not a strap could be seen on her shoulder.

No longer my girl, but one fancy chick,

perceived by men, as looking much older.

Then came the shoes, stilettos of course,

just stunning, with shimmering trims.

I fear that the angle of arch is a curse,

not to mention the strain on her shins!

Another week passed with one major omission,

I knew my wishful thinking would not last.

Neither a jewel nor a Visa receipt of submission,

til a dazzling display of earrings walked past!

Imagine her dreams, for the most formal of Balls;

a glorious entrance to the dance floor of love!

Her handsome admirer, stares first, and then he calls,

. . .Thank you Lord, for this gift from above!

The guests all spread wide as these lovers will glide,

with golden locks flowing out through the air;

Not a foot is placed wrong, and ever closer they slide;

as new love grows, all her nerves disappear.

May your most dazzling dream turn out to be real,

as your enchanting formal is ready to begin.

Parting gestures for a princess; a show you will steal;

as your Daimler disappears, with my grin.
